100 years Bauhaus Dessau –
The return of a classic.
With its clear, functional form, robust construction that was ideal for mass production, the Rowac-Schemel embodied the Bauhaus' new understanding of design, in which form and function form a unity. To mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus Dessau, we are celebrating the return of this classic: for over a year now, the Rowac-Schemel is now once again manufactured true to the original within a radius of just 40 km in the Ore Mountains.
1925 –
The Bauhaus moves to Dessau.
The members of the Bauhaus left a lot behind in Weimar - but they took a few useful things with them, such as the Rowac-Schemel. As the world's first seating furniture made from riveted steel plate, the durable design proved its worth. For this reason, Walter Gropius specifically included it in the furnishings of the workshops and classrooms of the new Bauhaus building. There it played many roles, for example as an object of study in Wassily Kandinsky's analytical drawing lessons. Outside the classroom, the Rowac-Schemel was also used for the legendary parties and the Bauhaus band.
